Liaison for Dalai Lama says SA told them to withdraw the visa application

Tibetan activist Guy Lieberman serves as a local liaison for the Dalai Lama.

The 2014 Nobel Laureates Summit was postponed after a number of laureates pulled out in response to the Dalai Lama not receiving a visa to enter South Africa.

Patricia de Lille announced on 2 October that Cape Town would not host the summit and that South Africa under Jacob Zuma has lost its moral compass by bowing to Chinese pressure.

The Presidency maintains that the South African government had not denied the visa, but that the Dalai Lama had withdrawn his application.

Guy Lieberman reveals to Kieno what was said it the meeting with representatives from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) when they met at the Tibet office in Pretoria.
