CEO at Cape Town Tourism Enver Duminy explains what plans are in place to make sure local and foreigner tourists are safe.

The murder of a tourist in Cape Town's Table Mountain National Park and other recent attacks have caused concerns for the safety of both local and foreign tourists to the Mother City, as well as residents.

Kieno Kammies speaks to Enver Duminy, the CEO of Cape Town Tourism, about what is being done to win the confidence of potential visitors to this gorgeous city.

It has been a wake-up call.

Enver Duminy, CEO - Cape Town Tourism

He says in the run-up to the high season more needs to be done.

We need to pull our socks up.

Enver Duminy, CEO - Cape Town Tourism

But how will this be done?

Duminy says Cape Town Tourism plans to engage with its member businesses in the tourism industry.

It also plans to collaborate with other associations to ensure tourism readiness from a safety perspective.

The focus was primarily on visitor safety, he explains.

However, with increases in attacks on tourism businesses, he says the focus is changing to that of both visitor and industry safety.

We were the first tourism body to introduce tourism monitors two years ago. We used our own money and resources.

Enver Duminy, CEO - Cape Town Tourism

He says through technology and Whatsapp groups an early warning system is in place.
