I like to see money in my bank account. I don’t like to know how it works.

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

I think I’ve put some money into those Bitcoin things… I don’t know how to access it…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

When people talk to me about money, I become anxious… Even working out a bill… it’s become a blind spot…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

Every week The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviews a famous person about her or his attitude to money (hopes and fears, successes and failures, etc.) as part of his weekly "Make Money Mondays, Personal Edition" feature.

This week Whitfield interviewed comedian Anne Hirsch of "The Anne Hirsch Show” on YouTube.

Hirsch was born and bred in Bloemfontein, and “educated” at the University of Stellenbosch (Drama) and the University of Cape Town (Theatre and Performance).

She’s “interviewed” some of South Africa’s most famous peeps including Helen Zille, Gareth Cliff, Anele Mdoda and Zelda la Grange.

She repeatedly claims to be Angelina Jolie’s "bestie".

Would you rather make out with Donald Trump and nobody knows, or not make out with Donald Trump and everyone thinks you did?

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show
  • What is it that she believes about money?

  • Does it keep her up at night?

  • Does she spend like crazy or save compulsively?

  • How did her childhood experiences shape her views on money?

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for more quotes from it).

I like to think it [going back to Bloemfontein] is like Charlize Theron going back to Benoni… One needed a sense of humour [growing up in Bloemfontein] … I was always exposed to comedy…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

Money kills comedy…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

The first time I really earned money was at a kebab shop in Australia… illegally and gainfully employed…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

Saving has always scared me… I know I’m saving some money, but I don’t really know where, to be honest…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

I like to use the terms ‘diversify’ and ‘portfolio’ a lot…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

If money comes in, I’ll always treat myself… it’s fun to spend it…

Anne Hirsch, comedian - The Anne Hirsch Show

I live in Cape Town. I think we all have a bit of a wine habit here…
