A new report claims discrimination against workers above a certain age is at an all-time high.

Trends forecasting agency Flux Trends has released a report on age inclusion and diversity in the workplace.

It shows that ageism is still a problem globally and that it has not received adequate attention.

Azania Mosaka speaks to cultural identity trend spotter Khumo Theko about the report.

"Ageism can be defined as prejudice against a person because of their age. Baby boomers and older Gen Xs are generally the victims of this discrimination."

Flux Trends Age in the Workplace – The next frontier of diversity and inclusion report

We found that there is a high level of people who feel once they reach the age of 50 they are going to struggle to find a job.

Khumo Theko, Cultural identity trend spotter - Flux Tends

We know that there are a lot of companies that are retrenching people and the first people they do look at are people who are reaching the retirement age.

Khumo says it's also important to recognise that the concept of a definitive 'retirement age' is changing.

Reality is people are living a lot longer and a lot of people within their career path have not been able to prepare for their pension as they would have hoped.

ICHAF Training Institute CEO Devan Moonsamy says ageism is rife in companies at the moment.

Sometimes we just feel we are not going to be getting the same mileage by giving an older person a leadership.
