Henrico Bruintjies sets another South African sprint record of 9.97 at the Resisprint International meeting in Switzerland over the weekend.
Bruintjies became the second South African athlete to dip under 10 seconds in sprinting competitions. He shaved 0.01 seconds off the previous South African record of 9.98 held by Simon Magakwe.
CapeTalk’s John Maytham spoke to Ross Tucker, Sport Scientist about Bruintjies performance.
According to Tucker, this was one of the greatest performances by a South African athlete. He said that he hopes that this performance will help establish a good system that will help produce more of these good performances in the future.
Thembane, Brruintjies and others, individually they are doing what they should. They have good couching, good scientific, medical and management support. It’s a combination of those good people that produces good results. The problem is it is not systematic ….— Ross Tucker, Sport Scientist
