Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has appointed Dr Humphrey Zokufa, a former medical aid industry insider, as Registrar of the Council for Medical Schemes.
Zokufa says he has accepted the post because of the various challenges faced by the health care sector both in private and public arenas. He says he has experience in both sectors and feels duty bound to make a contribution.
This is a big plus because i understand the issues, i do appreciate the challenges and the very difficulties that the medical schemes have been faced with ....me crossing over as the regulator I am moving into an environment and dealing with issues that I am very much aware of— Dr Humphrey Zokufa, registrar of the Council for Medical Schemes
Zokufa says there is no conflict of interest between his newly appointed position and his previous role in the medical aid industry.
He says medical aid schemes should be playing an integral role in the establishment and the running of the National Health Insurance.
