Public hearings continued today on the Expropriation Bill which is currently before Parliament since yesterday.
The Bill will allow for government to expropriate property ‘in the public interest’ in return for compensation deemed to be ‘just and equitable’ rather than on a strictly market-related basis.

This morning we heard from AgriSA representing the farmers across all race groups and they were complementary about this Bill saying there’s an improvement from the earlier version which was shelved by the government in 2008.— Gaye Davies, EWN
