The City of Cape Town is to lease Greenmarket Square for five years in an effort to increase the vibrancy and achieve its full potential.
The move has been given a seal of approval by the Cape Town Partnership.
Kieno Kammies spoke to Garreth Bloor, mayoral committee member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development for the City of Town.
It remains an iconic space. The key is not about changing the nature of the Square, but rather looking at how best to manage the facility. The City has proposed a model for a five year lease period that invites the private sector and civil society to enter into this partnership. The proposal is open for public comment.— Garreth Bloor, MayCo member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development
