CapeTalk listeners support young aspiring lawyer with Stellies funding

CapeTalk presenter Kieno Kammies has received a number of generous offers to help fund a young aspirant lawyer needing financial assistance to study law at Stellenbosch University.

So far R40 000 has been pledged by CapeTalk listeners and other donors towards the funding of a bright student, after a Table View mother called in with a plea to help her daughter.

The young girl achieved seven distinctions in her matric year in 2014, but unfortunately did not receive academic funding.

She has spent 2015 working and saving towards her studies.

My daughter matriculated in 2014 with seven distinctions. She always wanted to be a lawyer so we applied to Stellenbosch University. She was accepted and got into the hostel as well. But I can't afford the fees because I am a clerk and earn very little money. We've been unsuccessful with bursary applications.

Lizanne, mother wanting to get her daughter to Stellenbosch University

Stellenbosch University will subsidise 40% of her fees based on her academic results, leaving R52 000 for her studies and accommodation in 2016.
