New Beginnings: Black Sails comes to SA and cycling from London to Cape Town

Black Sails is due to premiere the History Channel, DStv channel 186, on Tuesday, August 18 at 9.20pm. Produced by Starz, the series is shot in Cape Town at the Cape Town Film Studios and has already aired season 1 and season 2 in the US.

The series is a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s world-famous novel, Treasure Island, and is a gritty, adult drama set in the brutal and cut-throat golden age of 18th century piracy.

According to Stevenson they employed more than 800 South Africans during the shooting as extras and crew.

A journey of thousand kilometers on a bicycle

John Stanford has just finished his cross-continent cycle from London to Cape Town in aid of anti-rhino poaching efforts.

Stanford departed from Putney Bridge in October last year with his friend Pierre, who cycled with him to Zambia before they followed separate routes back to Cape Town to visit their respective families along the way.

Pierre arrived in Cape Town two weeks ago, and John arrived today.

John Stanford speaks to CapeTalk’s Pippa Hudson about his journey which he covered 15 200 kilometres.
