The Economic Development Minister, Ebrahim Patel has announced that government is putting a plan in place to deal with the 'unprecedented' unemployment blood bath, which since April has seen more than 23 000 South Africans receive notice that they may lose their jobs.
Minister Patel told John Robbie this morning that he is aware of the serious trouble the South African mining industry is in - especially due to the slow down in demand for commodities like metal.
The ministry has proposed that an urgent intervention is needed from the state. The main focus will be on infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, as well as small business development.
