This week on inspirational Wednesday we shift our focus to an organisation that is giving a second chance to people who have fallen victim to rape - Rape Crisis.
According to Rape crisis, in South Africa a person is sexually assaulted or raped as often as every 8 minutes. However, variable reports claim that only 1 in 9 or 1 in 25 rapes actually get reported.
Rape Crisis Cape Town was established in 1976 with the mission to support the recovery of rape survivors, seek justice and make a change in communities.
CapeTalk’s Pippa Hudson spoke to Kathleen Dey, Director at Rape Crisis Cape Town
Rape crisis did a community survey in Athlone last year during the 16 days of activism against women and child abuse. The community members mentioned that rape is a big problem but no one is willing to talk about it. She says silence on rape is still very strong in some communities.
