Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande’s announced the appointment of First Rand Bank CEO, Sizwe Nxasana, as the new chairperson of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
Nxasana spoke to 702's Xolani Gwala about his plans for the financial aid scheme, he pointed out the various issues that he plans to address in the process of taking over the organization and improving it so it better assists students seeking funding.
Even though government has increased the allocation to NSFAS, which is now just over R9 Billion there is still not enough ... The other issues have to do with the efficiency of NSFAS itself ... There is a huge amount of work that NSFAS itself has to do and as the board we really need to make sure that NSFAS moves to a student-centred approach.— Sizwe Nxasana, NSFAS Chairperson
