Thailand-based Dr Henk Vanstaen, who is acting on behalf of South African prisoners in Bangkok, has sent a petition to Members of South African Parliament to enter into a Prisoner Transfer Agreement with Thailand.
The agreement would allow the 11 South African prisoners to return home to finish their sentence and their rehabilitation close to their loved ones.
Amongst these prisoners in Bangkok is Gary Hattingh, who was sentenced to life in prison, after drugs were found in his suitcase. His step-father speaks to John Robbie about how he has pleaded with the South African government (DIRCO) to consider the Prisoner Transfer Agreement, as he feels Gary did not receive a fair trial in Thailand.
