'We can't know what happened in that cockpit' - reactions to wreckage from MH370

It has been confirmed that the aircraft wing found on Réunion Island is from the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 plane.

The aircraft, carrying 239 people, veered off course from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014.

The debris was found on the remote French Indian Ocean island a week ago and was taken to Toulouse for testing.

It was long believed that the plane crashed into the southern Indian ocean.

Aviation blogger and veteran journalist Des Latham has been following the story since the flight went missing.

In an article from his blog, Latham says that the pilot flying the MH370 plane was extremely skilled, but 'we can never know for sure what the events were, leading up to the crash'.

It's mostly speculation, because we don't have hard facts before us. We can't know what happened in that cockpit. But I've spent a lot of time and effort probing this. If you look at all the speculative facts, it looks like a really experienced pilot took the flight out and cut out communication.

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies also spoke with Nico Cyprien, a local tour guide at Réunion Island, to learn more about the local reaction to the discovered wreckage.

People have been really excited. They know that families have been looking for closure. Locals have gone to church to pray fro the victims and their families.

Cyprien says that a suitcase, plastic bottles and other items have also washed up on the shores of Réunion Island.
