We all need to help shut down Eldos drug dens

Last week Friday night, police and the Eldorado Local Drug Action Committee (Eldac) removed five girls under the age of 16 from a lolly lounge (a drug den) in a local house, where girls are supplied with crystal meth in exchange for sex with men.

On Wednesday, eight children were taken to a place of safety after being found in a lobby lounge.

John Robbie spoke to Eldorado Park Ward 18 Councillor, Peter Rafferty about his plan of action to ensure the safety of the children and eradicate these drug dens.

Rafferty says that they are struggling to keep the lolly lounges closed down, as they they only go quiet for some time and start again. He suggests that the only way to get rid of this problem is through community involvement and parental involvement. He says that the parents also need to be charged for not doing anything about their children, after they were found in the lolly lounges.

Community members need to sit down and figure how best to deal with the situation. Police rely on tip offs from the community, in order to arrest.
