Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria, Jannie Hugo has suggested that the drug Nyaope should be legalised.
Nyaope (which contains heroin, dagga, ARVs and rat poison) has been notoriously plaguing communities, as youth increasingly become addicts.
Professor Hugo feels that it should be a priority in primary care and that making Nyaope a criminal drug hasn’t solved any problems. He even adds that there is a drug available to treat people addicted to Nyaope and that the should be more focus on making that available.
Consider decriminalising it, so we can focus on managing the problem of Nyaope and not just the policing of it. We should at least discuss it and focus and treatment and rehabilitation – not just the criminal response to it.— Professor Jannie Hugo, Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria
