On this week’s health and wellness Dr Darren Green looks at palpitations, causes and how to treat them.
Palpitations are irregular heartbeat due to agitation, exertion, or illness. When having palpitations you may feel like your heart is beating too hard or too fast, skipping a beat. And according to Dr Green it is an awareness of your pulse rate.
Dr Green says that palpitations can be linked with certain activities or emotions. Exercise and physical activities can cause palpitations.
Common causes of palpitations include:
- Excessive consumption of caffeine, chocolate, or alcohol
- Stress or panic
- low blood sugar
How to treat palpitations:
- Try to relax and breathe normally
- Drink water
- Get enough sleep
- Cut back on alcohol and caffeine
