R440 million Casablanca property in Camps Bay reckoned as SA's priciest home

Marketed as South Africa's most expensive residence, a mansion in Camps Bay is on sale for $35-million; approximately R440-million.

The real estate has triple-volumed reception rooms that can accommodate 1000 guests and features 13 bathrooms as well as a parquet-floored garage with capacity to house 14 cars.

The average price for homes on the same street sits at around R10.5-million, making the house's asking price way above usual.

Steven Delit, Property expert with Remax, spoke to CapeTalk presenter Kieno Kammies about the expensive piece of real estate.

With that price, one could have bought each of the 33 houses that were sold in the first half of the year and bought out all the food stock at a Woolworths store - to ensure you really host a good party.

Steven Delit, Remax Property expert

According to Delit, the asking price for many properties is often inflated for 'public relations value'. He says the the City of Cape Town should evaluate the mansion to assess the property's real worth.
