'Lighten up': A father's advice to other fathers

With all the social media, pop culture and different influences that shape the girl child in the digital age, author of What Nobody Tells a New Father, Alan Hosking, who has raised three girls, spoke to John about how fathers can raise young girls in the 21st Century.

Alan's girls are now 30 years, 27 years and 18 years old. He says that it can be difficult to raise girl children and that what new fathers don't realise is that "little girls are women in little bodies, complete with all the emotion wrapped up in there."

His advice to other fathers is 'unconditional love', as one of the biggest things that fathers need to give their children. No matter what you say or do (even if I don't agree), I will always love you.

He also says that dads need a sense of humour.

You've got to laugh at yourself too. When you take things too seriously, you get all strung out.

Alan Hosking, Author of 'What Nobody Tells a New Father'

Alan's book, What Nobody Tells a New Father is available on Amazon.
