Wumdrop, a courier and fleet management app has emerged winner of the 4th MTN Business App of the year challenge.
WumDrop is a courier application that allows its users to send any package anywhere, and with a click of a button.
Wumdrop is co-founded by Simon Hartley and Roy Borole and is available to business clients and can be incorporated in their e-commerce offering.
The service is currently available in Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg and the company plans to extend its offerings and launch in Durban next.
CapeTalk’s john Maytham spoke to Simon Hartley who is the founder of Wumdrop:
According to Hartley the name Wumdrop came from a previous business, WumWum, which delivered baby nappies. WumWum derives from a Zulu expression ‘umtwana wam’.
Wumdrop operations are similar to those of Uber, a taxi meter taxi business that operates through Uber mobile app. Hartley says they looked at Uber business model prior to starting Wumdrop.
