Ritz Hotel to re-open in December after R110m revamp

The Ritz Hotel in Sea Point is being refurbished just in time for the holiday season.

The hotel management has been taken over by hospitality group Shimmy Luxury Collection (SLC).

SLC's Nicky van der Walt explains that the aim is to have the refurbished hotel fully operational by 1 December 2016, which is already fully booked for the festive period.

The refurbishment is valued at R110 million and involves more than just a cosmetic upgrade.

We're redoing all the piping and electrical, bringing it up to the 21st Century. It's a mechanical and structural upgrade as well.

Nicky van der Walt, SLC founder

Cubana will be the ground-floor restaurant at the hotel, and van der Walt has encouraged Capetonians to indulge in their luxury experience as day guests.

The 220-bedroom property will boast a spa, pool facility, gym and business centre.

There will also be a fine-dining restaurant at the Top of the Ritz, influenced by concept chef, Bertus Basson.
