Grand Prix bid group reassures SA over dashed F1 hopes

The head of Formula One Bernie Ecclestone, has said that South Africa’s hopes of hosting a race in the near future are non-existent.

In an exclusive interview with EWN Sport, he said a race was unlikely to come to the country unless somebody "who’s in a position to make a commitment" presents a concrete plan to him.

Someone needs to get behind this in South Africa to make it happen. If they don't, it will continue to bumble along with a lot of interest and without real effort to do anything. Nobody has made it happen.

However, CEO of Cape Town Grand Prix South Africa Igshaan Amlay told CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies that the process could not be "fast-tracked".

Amlay says that negotiations with Ecclestone can only move forward once the bidding organisation has solidified their proposal and secured the buy in of local stakeholders.

We will be presenting to the The City of CapeTown's Events committee in the next few weeks. We have been delayed because we would like to have a watertight proposal.

Igshaan Amlay, CEO of Cape Town Grand Prix South Africa

According to Amlay, the group has been conducting comparative analysis with previous host countries.
