Four things to manage in order to avoid erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get or maintain an erection long enough to have sexual intercourse. According to Dr Shangai Mutambirwa there are lifestyle changes that can significantly affect it.

In order to protect yourself, Dr Mutambirwa advises that less is more:

  • No smoking
  • Eat well & less calories
  • Exercise more
  • Manage stress

Sometimes additional intervention is required.

Penile rehabilitation is a fairly new concept in sexual medicine. It consists of medical and therapeutic treatments to restore penile health.

The goal of penile rehabilitation is to stimulate blood flow to the penis after pelvic surgery or trauma and illness, to help improve sexual function.

About 10 percent of males will experience erectile problems after they’ve undergone any kind of surgery, be it on the eye or a removal of a lump on the skin.

Dr Shangai Mutambirwa, Urologist

Dr Mutambirwa says it is mostly based on the psychological aspects with changes in the hormones and patterns but with time things do get back to normal.
