Five hikers were rescued over the weekend trapped on Table Mountain following rock falls. A large boulder dislodged itself from the mountain and rolled down, taking five these hikers with it.
Reports say that four of the hikers suffered minor injuries while the 5th was in a stretcher.
It is also reported that the hikers were accompanies by an experienced tour guide who could face a lifetime ban from the mountains because the hiking route has been closed for more than 20 years due to rock falls.
CapeTalk’s Kieno Kammies spoke to Johan Marais, Spokesman for Wilderness Search & Rescue who says that the tour guide should have known better than to take hikers on a closed route and that Sanparks is investigating the matter.
