University of Stellenbosch language policy under Parly spotlight

The management of Stellenbosch university is appearing before the Parliamentary committee on education along with Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande in Parliament today.

The administrators have been called to account for the institution’s transformation policies after a documentary titled _Luister _sent shockwaves through the university (and social media).

Student activist group Open Stellenbosch says the documentary showed that apartheid was alive and well at the institution and they want Afrikaans as a medium of instruction to be changed.

Stellenbosch’s Vice-Chancellor Wim de Villiers has been facing questions today in Parliament. Rahima Essop reported on this.

The Stellenbosch University had to table it's language policy. It seems their language policy is at the root of the problems at the university.
