Mandy Wiener speaks to Majaletje Mathume, spokesperson of student activist group, Open Stellenbosch, following a meeting between University of Stellenbosch management and Parliament's portfolio committee on higher education yesterday.
The administrators were called to account for the institution’s transformation policies after a documentary titled ‘Luister’ sent shock waves through the university.
Open Stellenbosch has been very vocal, saying the documentary showed that apartheid was alive and well at the institution and they want Afrikaans as a medium of instruction to be changed.
Since the meeting, the university administrators have extended an invitation to Open Stellenbosch to engage constructively with them, which they were not so open to do previously.
