"Transformania will not win", VC reassuring despite Maties council member tweet

Stellenbosch University council member Piet le Roux has publicly shared his stance on transformation at the institution.

Le Roux expressed his dissent just days after the council told Parliament’s portfolio committee on higher education that it was united on the importance of transformation at the institution.

The convener of the so-called Afrikaans alumni association tweeted that 'transformationia won't win', encouraging support for the newly formed Afrikaanse Alumni-vereniging.

According to the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wim de Villiers, the motion of full confidence in transformation and management still stands.

The council has 30 members, le Roux was elected by convocation and his term ends in March of 2016. The motions were passed by an overwhelming majority. This is a lone dissenting voice with regards to transformation initiatives.

Professor Wim de Villiers, Rector and Vice-Chancellor at Stellenbosch University

De Villiers assured CapeTalk presenter Kieno Kammies that the university was not associated with le Roux's newly forged association or its interests.
