Yesterday we received confirmation by police minister Nathi Nhleko that Major General Berning Ntlemeza has been appointed
This is a decision that has been met with much controversy, after judge Elias Matojane said in a judgement that Ntlemeza is biased, lacks integrity and honour as well as made false statements under oath.
In this position I am not going to protect anyone. I am here to serve the people of this country.— Major General Berning Ntlemeza, Head of the Hawks
You have the right to run to court. I am going to make sure I deliver as I have been appointed by this government.— Major General Berning Ntlemeza, Head of the Hawks
Director of the Helen Suzman Foundation, Francis Antonie emphasises the ruling that Ntlemeza is dishonest and lacks integrity.
I would hope that the Minister would've delayed the appointment until the courts have ruled on this matter. The Minister has appeals, it's before the SCA. Why not wait until these findings have been confirmed before appointing ?— Francis Antonie, Director of the Helen Suzman Foundation
Antonie believes that this decision doesn't instill confidence in the new head.
