The South African Police Services (Saps) have made a breakthrough with the arrest of a suspect who was charged with impersonating a police officer.
The suspect led Saps to a shop in Plumstead that sold him the uniform and found that the store manufactured counterfeit police uniforms, bulletproof vests, name tags, pepper spray and other insignia to sell to criminals.
The 43-year-old store owner has already appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed until later this month.
According to Major General Jeremy Veary, the store was advertising its illegal products online on a website called Ray Tactical Weapon Solutions.
