With private schooling being quite an exorbitant cost for a lot of parents, homeschooling seems to be a popular option for some.
Recent reports are suggesting that more South Africans are beginning to teach their children at home, rather than sending them to school.
We deal with a lot of parents who want to homeschool their children. It’s mostly children falling through the cracks of the school system, especially with children not getting the attention they need. These are usually parents are just worried about their kids’ education and can’t necessarily afford private schooling.— Amy Nortje, Spokesperson for Clonard Distance Education
Practically, Nortje said that one of the parents would have to be available to school the child at home, alternatively there are possibilities of using a tutor to do the schooling. She adds that in a lot of cases the turtor option still turns out cheaper than private schooling.
