Social media star and celebrity photographer Lesego Legobane, better known as ‘Thick Leeyonce’, has decided to show off her natural afro.
After years of wearing weaves and using relaxers, the unapologetic blogger says her decision is not necessarily a pledge of allegiance to the natural hair movement.
Instead, she explains to CapeTalk host Martin Evans that her choice is more about her journey of self-acceptance.
Listen to the full conversation from Overnight Live with Martin Evans:
Cutting my hair was me embracing my black beautiful hair. This is my personal journey that I've shared with everyone on social media. I'm showing them that I've come to this point and still feel beautiful. I've never been bare like this.— Lesego ‘Thick Leeyonce’ Legobane, social media star
Thick Leeyonce, who rose to prominence for her stance on body politics, says she hid her own hair for the longest time because she never found it to be attractive.
She has now removed her weave, cut off her relaxed her and dons a short brown afro.

Thick Leeyonce said Masekela's attitude is nothing but chauvinism disguised as preference.
