On Friday, Mfusi Zonke will graduate with an MTech in Public Management from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
Zonke enrolled for his first degree while working as a security guard. He would balance the awkward working hours and attending classes.
In 2010, Zonke was appointed as a caretaker at CPUT. This came with some benefits which made his studies easier to manage financially.
Zonke says he made a decision to study because what he was earning as a security guard was not enough for him and his family. He says he was earning R1800 a month as a security guard and his wife was not happy when he made a decision to study.
Education for me meant service to my family and service to my community— Mfusi Zonke, MTech graduate
I had three things to balance, studying, working and family. It all took dedication and focus.— Mfusi Zonke, MTech graduate
