The death of Sibella the cheetah was announced on Friday 11 September. Sibella died in the Samara Private Game Reserve near Graaff-Reinet after she suffered a deep wound to her abdomen following an encounter with a duiker buck she was hunting.
According Margie Varney, General Manager at Samara Game Reserve, Sibella’s death was an unfortunate accident. She says the duiker injured Sibella very badly by piercing her abdomen.
She says that although they’ve tried everything to save her, Sibella was also old. She was 14 years old.
Varney says that Sibella was a phenomenal mother, raising 20 cubs for the 12 years that she’s been at Samara.
