CapeTalk’s Pippa Hudson speaks to a South African who surfs the biggest waves on the planet, Chris Bertish about his love of the ocean and his unshaken focus on achieving his goals.
The ocean became my teacher, my church, my best friend, it became my second home.— Chris Bertish, big wave surfer
Bertish paddled over 3250km, crossing the North & South Atlantic Ocean, on a Stand Up Paddle board, a Guinness Book of Record attempt.

Bertish is a regular working guy and not a full-time professional athlete. He balances his talent and big waves ambitions with a 8 to 5 work to pay the bills.
He rides waves the size of five-story buildings for fun and has written a book, “Stoked” which is number one at Exclusive Books today.
People are very much afraid of the ocean, it is the only place I feel content and free— Chris Bertish, big wave surfer
