SA Flyer Magazine editor, Guy Lietch, has described the Citizen’s report on South African Airways (SAA) pilots’ perks as an ‘unfortunate and malicious report with one or two grains of truth’.
The Citizen newspaper reported that SAA pilots are accommodated in hotels of the highest global standards and entitled to free family travel on a preferential basis to normal fee-paying passengers.
Lietch says the information could only have been leaked by someone from the human resources department.
It is designed to further politicise and drive a wedge between the pilots, who have been loyal, and management.— Guy Lietch, SA Flyer Magazine editor
The Citizen report also raised transformation challenges in the airline.
Out of 225 senior captains employed, almost 217 are white males, four black people, and no Indians or coloureds, according to The Citizen report.
Lisetch says he does not believe it is the pilots fault that there is no transformation in the airlines.
