The second South African Young Academy of Science (Sayas) Symposium on Science and Society in Africa is taking place at the Inner City Ideas Cartel in Cape Town.
This year’s symposium is focusing on the potential of engagement outside the domain of traditional communication.
Capetalk’s John Maytham spoke to Dr Koni Benson, Post-doctoral candidate at UCT’s Department of Historical Studies & author of Crossroads.
Benson is looking at ways to get information across in a way that the person which the information is communicated to will be inclined to listen.
Dr Koni Benson, who spoke at the symposium yesterday, has done extensive work on women’s resistance to slum clearance in Crossroads.
Collaborating with the Transtraal Brothers, who are a team of illustrators, Dr Benson is looking at re-writing her thesis in a graphic novel which could be used in schools and communities.
