In divorce, pension funds to be split between 2 spouses

It is reported that a portion of pension funds of all government employees (police officers, teachers, nurses, etc), will go to the spouse if they get divorced – as per court order. However, the government employee then has to pay the money back.

Ray white (standing in for Stephen Grootes) spoke to Prof Alex Van der Heever from the Wits School of Governance.

The Government Employees Pension Fund (GPF) has introduced their own changes from June 2011 which allows for a divorced spouse (dependent) to access the accrued interests up until the point of divorce.
