SA fourth best governed country in Africa - 2015 Ibrahim Index

According to the 2015 Ibrahim Index, governance is sliding back in a third of African nations.

The index ranks South Africa as the fourth best governed country in Africa, behind Mauritius, Cape Verde and Botswana.

Jay Naidoo, a board member of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, today explored the findings of the index in greater detail, including worrying trends in categories such as personal safety, national security and gender rights.

Listen to the full conversation (with John Webb standing in) on Breakfast with Kieno Kammies:

21 of the 54 states ranked, including five of the top 10, have deteriorated in overall governance performance since 2011.

Despite this, the survey suggests that Africans overall are healthier and living in more democratic societies than 15 years ago.
