Unicef raises concern about delayed stats on violent crimes against children

A lot has been said about the recently released national crime statistics, but little attention has been given to the omission of the figures on violent crimes against children.

702's Xolani Gwala spoke to Patrizia Benvenuti, a representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) in South Africa, about her sentiments on the issue.

Benvenuti said they welcomed the South African Police Service's release of the national crime stats, but they were concerned about the omission.

She said they were not looking for quick fixes to the problem, but instead they hoped for long-term solutions.
