The Education Department has advised parents that the period for enrolling children into school is from 1 August and 31 October of the preceding year.
However, there are parents who are still struggling to place their children in schools at this time of the year.
It was reported that a Cape Town couple is accusing Paul Roos Gymnasium, a government school for boys in Stellenbosch of discrimination, after their son’s application was rejected.
Paddy Attwell from the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) explains the rules of enrolling pupils into schools.

According to Attwell the school's governing body has the right to set their school’s admission policy. He says that some schools might make it their school's policy to only admit children from the community and reject those commuting.
