The City of Cape Town’s latest batch of trainee firefighters will commence their eight-month training course tomorrow.
A group of 43 recruits will be deemed competent as learner firefighters after completing an evaluation at the end of the training period.
CapeTalk’s John Maytham spoke to Theo Layne, Cape Town Fire Services about the trainees and the City’s expectations after the course is completed.

According to Layne, there were 2000 people who applied for do the firefighting course.
He said all the applicants needed to be physical fit to qualify and most people got limited in fitness test.
Once completed the learners still go on an ongoing learning period for 18 months. After the 18 months they are evaluated again moving from a leaner firefighter to become fully-fledged firefighters.
