Foreign drivers licences allowed on SA roads - JMPD

Some foreign nationals complain about metro police fining them for using drivers licences from they home countries even if they produce an international permit.

A listener, who is Zimbabwean, sent 702 an email asking for clarity on which documents to carry while driving on South African roads. He said after his experience with metro police, he didn't know whether to carry three documents: a traffic register, international permit, and a Zimbabwean licence.

702's Xolani Gwala sought clarity on the issue from JMPD spokesperson Edna Mamonyane.

People with Zim licences are permitted to drive in South Africa... Only if a person has been given permanent residency they then get a South African licence.
