City of Cape Town is accused of not respecting the rights its residents

The City of Cape Town plans to build a MyCiti bus route in Wynberg have been temporarily clogged by the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

The plan involved demolishing some houses and termination of lease orders of some residences to make way for the new route.

The South Road Families Association took the matter to court and the court ruled in their favour saying that proper consultations should be implemented.

CapeTalk’s John Maytham spoke to Lesley London, a concerned resident who lives in Observatory, where the City has effectively helped Rawson to secure permission to build a 9-story monolith on the main road in Observatory.

According to London a zoning scheme was implemented without public participation. He says the City only recognising property rights of big developers but not the rights of any other stakeholders.
