Let's not speculate on cause of bridge collapse - Mayor Parks Tau

In a horrific incident yesterday afternoon, the scaffolding of a pedestrian bridge under construction over the M1 highway near Sandton collapsed, killing two people and injuring 23.

Hopes that bridge will open by afternoon rush hour

Speaking to Cape Talk/ 702's Stephen Grootes on the Midday Report, City of Joburg Mayor Parks Tau said that he does not want to speculate about the cause of the collapse. He added that he wanted to allow the investigation to take its course.

Mayor Tau said the officials on the scene were working towards getting the M1 open by the afternoon rush hour.
