TECHNOBYTE for 16 October 2015

This week I have been using Apple’s new 12 inch MacBook which is now available in South Africa. It is a beautifully deigned laptop with a retina display that feels solid and features a newly designed keyboard and a Force Touch keypad that adds additional functionality to the user experience. This notebook uses the new universal connector format USB-C that will eventually be used by all computers. This means there are no USB slots on this machine so users will need to get an adapter to use connectors like USB or HDMI for example. Battery life is rated between 9 and 10 hours depending on usage. Apple’s 12 inch MacBook is without a doubt ahead of its time but users will be frustrated by the lack of USB.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are in South Africa at last, available in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models. The iStore and Takealot recently announced cash prices for the device in the build up to the launch, but now that the new Apple smartphones are here, all SA’s network operators have revealed their contract deals. The iStore offers customers the option to take out a contract with any one the country’s four major operators – allowing customers to choose the best deal possible. Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, and Telkom’s contract pricing for the 6s and 6s Plus is detailed in the table below, as per the iStore’s listings.

We received an email from Vusi regarding a service called MyPC Backup and how he is being cornered into paying up to keep his documents or they will be deleted unless he forks out $1. This company uses deceptive business practices to hook customers in to a very poor service. Always read other sure comments and research anything you install on your computer.

Use a reputable company to do any kind of backup or storage in the cloud. There are many good services out there that offer good value and have an outstanding reputation.
