The Serendipity Home for Aged is being investigated by the Department of Social Development following reports that residents have been neglected and abused.
The Sunday Times reported that 15 residents have died in the last 5 months at the home which is not registered. The owner Sharon Roberts joined Kieno to refute the claims and to welcome the investigation.
Roberts has undertaken to make security footage filmed at the home available to authorities to show everything is above board.
Kieno also spoke to MEC for Social Development Albert Fritz about the scale of the issue with homes for the aged and the department's ability to regulate them and protect residents. Fritz confirmed that the home is not registered with his department.
According to EWN, residents pay R5 000 per month to stay at the home.
