Max Price slams student claims that management only responds to disruptions

University Cape Town (UCT) Vice Chancellor Max Price has condemned the disruptions caused by students demonstrators of the #FeesMustFall movement.

According to student activist, Kealeboga Ramaru the university management does not respond to peaceful talks and only pays attention to student grievances when operations cannot return to "business as usual."

Price said the university has shown co-operation with peaceful engagement in the past with movements such as the #RhodesMustFall campaign earlier this year.

Listen to the full conversation from CapeTalk's Breakfast with Kieno Kammies:

According to Price, UCT's student representative council (SRC) had previously agreed to the proposed 10.3% fee increase and acknowledged that it was a pro-poor proposal.

This after students rejected a 6% cap on university fee increases for 2016 announced by Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande on Tuesday.

Students from UCT closed off roads, protested against a hike in tuition fees and the outsourcing of labour.

Protesting UCT students are forming a human barricade to block access to the lower campus as a part of a national shut down.
