702 and CapeTalk revise line-up

702 and CapeTalk have announced changes to the stations’ weeknight line-up and to welcome legendary broadcaster, Alex Jay to Solid Gold weekends.

From Monday 2 November, _Night Talk with Gugu and Sizwe _will broadcast from 20h00 to 23h00, Monday to Friday.

This will be followed by Late Night with Aubrey from 23h00 to 03h00 when listeners can enjoy Aubrey Masango’s thorough discussion of the issues of the day. Early Breakfast will follow from 03h00 to 06h00.

“For the past month we have piloted a younger, edgier talk show co-hosted by Gugu Mhlungu and Sizwe Dhlomo with a dynamic new format,” said 702 station manager, Pheladi Gwangwa.

“Recent events reinforce our belief that young South Africans are interested in current affairs, they are debating what’s happening in our country and grappling with what it means for their future. Gugu and Sizwe are familiar personalities among this audience and they are able to engage with them.”

The change means that SportsTalk will now air on Friday nights between 19h00 and 20h00 and Sunday nights for two hours between 19h00 and 21h00. This focus on the weekends mirrors the concentration of sports activity. Major sports stories will be covered in regular programming as well as in EWN Sport bulletins.

On the weekends, one of South Africa’s most recognizable radio voices: Alex Jay will be presenting Solid Gold from 13h00 to 16h00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Alex remains in his weekend breakfast slot on sister stations 947 and KFM.

Alex started his broadcast career at 702 back when it was a music station in the 1980’s; so he is returning to his first home.

“Alex has been a prominent personality in music radio since the 80’s and his relationship with the music that we play on Solid Gold is deeply personal. We welcome him back to 702 and to CapeTalk,” said Colleen Louw, CapeTalk station manager.

The change means that the stations say farewell to Allan Barnard, who has delighted listeners with his knowledge of classic hits for many years. “Allan Barnard has been with solid gold since inception, we thank him for his contribution,” said Louw.

The new line-up will come into effect from 20h00 on Monday 2 November.

Tune in to 702 on 92.7 or 106fm in Gauteng; CapeTalk on 567am in the Cape or join the conversation on Twitter @Radio702 @CapeTalk with the hashtag #NightTalk.
