Stellenbosch University: 'English, Afrikaans to share equal status'

Stellenbosch University has confirmed that that English will be the primary medium of instruction - parallel to Afrikaans - at the institution, effective from 2016.

Stephen Grootes spoke to the vice-rector of Teaching and Learning, Professor Arnold Schoonwinkel, about this move by the university.

Professor Schoonwinkel said while they are prioritising English, Afrikaans will still be the parallel language of instruction, so as not to exclude Afrikaans-speaking students.
